Dear Editor,
How persons can write such trite nonsense and manage to have it published is amazing. But then again, history is replete with so many examples.
Nigel Westmaas’s letter published in the Stabroek News of September 24, falls into such a category (‘The WPA expanded organizationally between 1980 and 1992 in conditions of veritable siege’).
Where he got his information from that “Janet Jagan wept publicly” and that “the PPP leader cautioned the WPA not to venture into PPP areas since they were already “liberated” is anybody’s guess. Mr Westmaas was not around, much less present in any high level discussion between PPP and WPA leaders on any such matters.
About the WPA’s existence or non-existence, I refuse to essay a view on the matter since, in the context of Guyana’s realpolitik, the WPA has long been a matter of history.
Yours faithfully,
Clement Rohee
