The Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club horse race meet which was scheduled for last Sunday was postponed due to numerous unforeseen circumstances.
According to a release from the club, the event will now run off on October 30 at the same venue.
Organiser Marcel Crawford Jr., said yesterday that the previously advertised races will be contested.
He said that the club was moving to standardize the level of racing in Guyana and as such, will be introducing a number of new initiatives by the new date.
In excess of $3M in cash, trophies and other incentives are up for grabs and a total of eight races are billed for the day’s activities.
The events listed are the Alness Classic over 1600M event for a first prize of $600,000 and trophy with a total purse of over $1.2M. The G and lower event over 1300M with a first prize of $300,000 and trophy.
The Guyana-bred, two-year-old horses will compete for a first prize money of $200,000 over 1100M while the H and lower 1400M event will see the animals racing for a $200,000 first place prize money and a trophy. The steeds in the ‘J1’ class event will be competing for a top prize of $140,000 and over a distance of 1300M while the K and lower event has a winning prize money of $80,000 over a distance of 1100M.
There will be a race for the L1 cavalry over 1100M for a first prize of $60,000 and a trophy.
The unclassified event will see the horses galloping over 1100M for take home money of $30,000.
Outstanding individual performers including top jockey, trainer and stable will be presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall of Bourda Market and the turf club.
