Over the last three months, the police have seized a total of $114M in narcotics and some 136 intended traffickers have since faced charges and are before the courts.
Acting Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine, during a press conference held yesterday, said that since July, 43 kilogrammes of cannabis, with a street value of $22M, were seized and 108 persons, including 96 men and 12 women, were charged in connection with the seizures.
As it relates to cocaine, he said 102 kilogrammes of the drug, with a street value of $92M, were seized. Some 90 kilogrammes of this total amount of cocaine were seized at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport from outgoing passengers. The total seizures, he said, have seen 28 persons, including five women, facing charges.
In terms of eradication exercises, Ramnarine noted that 21,150 kilogrammes of cannabis plants, which ranged from one to six feet in height, were destroyed by burning in Linden.
The most recent exercise was conducted on Thursday. Three persons, who were on the farm at the time, were arrested and are expected to be charged soon.
