The members of the Public Procurement Commission have not been sworn in due to “administrative concerns in relation to its Terms of Reference (ToR). This is according to President David Granger, who told reporters on this week’s Public Interest that he is ready to swear in the nominated members.
“As recently as two weeks ago, a date and time for swearing in had been announced but concerns about the drafting of the ToR delayed it but it is strictly an administrative matter,” he said.
The National Assembly last month approved the appointment of members of the long-awaited Commission, almost 13 years after the enabling legislation was passed by the National Assembly.
A motion for the adoption of the report of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the appointment of members to the Commission, moved by PAC Chairman Irfaan Ali, was passed with the support of both the government and opposition members of the House, who emphasised that it would ensure transparency and accountability in the tendering process.
The nominated members of the Commission are Emily Dodson, Carol Corbin, Sukrishnalall Pasha, Ivor B. English and Dr. Nanda K. Gopaul.
