Favourites to win the Guyana Chess Federation’s junior qualification tournament to arrive at the competitors for the national junior championships, Roberto Neto and Sheriffa Ali were among the early winners when the competition got underway yesterday at the National Resource Centre.
They were joined by dark horse Saeed Ali who also won his first round encounter.
In results of yesterday’s first round matches, Neto defeated Aravinda Singh, Ali beat Shivannie Persaud, Saeed Ali defeated Areefa Budhu, Jessica Callender won from Aleem Baseer, Joshua Gopaul beat Nellisha Johnson, Ghanisham Allijohn won from Waveney Johnson, Jade Taylor defeated Akili Theophil, Asiyah Bacchus beat Kristoff Persaud and John Wong got the better of Anthony Johnson.
The competition continues this morning at the same venue from 10am.
