The Office of the Presidential Advisor on Youth Empowerment, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, concluded its Sixth Youth Leadership Training Programme last week.
According to a press release from the Office of the Presidential Advisor on Youth Empowerment, the programme was held over two weekends, September 16 – 18 and September 23 – 25, and hosted 76 participants from all of the administrative regions expect 8 and 9.
During the two weekends, participants were taught concepts such as: Qualities of a Leader, Management and Management Process, Communication and the Communication Process, Effective Public Speaking, Problem Solving and Decision Making. The participants were challenged to practice good time management skills and were engaged in practical work to develop their leadership skills, the release stated.
According to the release, the programme also featured a Mock Youth Parliament where the participants debated various motions including Teenage Pregnancy, School Drop Outs, Dancehall Music and its Connection to Crime, and Abortion.
The feature address was delivered by Minister of Citizenship Winston Felix, who urged the participants to return to their communities and utilise the knowledge gained for the growth and development of their youth organisations and communities, the release said.
