Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Vice President Rawlston Adams said yesterday that the commencement of the Goal Project has been held up by an unsigned contract between the supervising consultant and the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
In an invited comment Adams, who holds the portfolio for Infrastructure told Stabroek Sports….“We have not issued the commencement order because we are still waiting one of the contracts to be signed between the consultant [Marcel Gaskin and Associate] for supervision with FIFA.”
According to Adams, the governing body has signalled its commitment to have the matter resolved shortly.
Asked if officials from FIFA will be present for the start of the project, Adams said:“We have not had any indication but if there is it will surely be made known.”
Guyana’s Goal Project, which is now known as the Forward Project, moved one step closer in becoming a reality when construction firm Dwain Ferdinand and Home Designs and Engineering Associates inked the contract for the initiative’s sub-base work on September 20th.
The New Amsterdam-based entity edged out Courtney Benn Constructing Services during an assessment procedure conducted by a three member Evaluation Committee comprising of Chairman Rabin Chandarpal, Nigel Hinds and Hector Edwards.
The victorious bidder tabled an offer of $128,650,927 while Courtney Benn Contracting Services submitted a bid of $152,781,628.
The facility, which will be constructed at the Providence Community Centre Ground, will be done in two phases. The first phase will be the installation of an artificial turf and the second phase will see infrastructure such as stands, lights, beach, Futsal training pitches, mini pitches and an administrative centre for the headquarters of the GFF being established.
