A Pike Street, Campbellville resident, who was allegedly found with a stolen gold chain in his possession was yesterday granted $25,000 bail by the chief magistrate.
The courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan heard that on October 4, 2016, at Regent Street, Georgetown, Rondel Cummings, 21, stole from the person of LaDonna Cornett, a gold chain valued at $73,000. Cummings, a vendor by profession, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.
Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones who had no objections to Cummings receiving bail, asked that h be required to post a substantial amount. According to Jones, the stolen jewellery was recovered by the police on the defendant soon after the robbery was committed. The prosecutor also told the court that he had learnt from the investigating officer in the matter, that Cummings had several matters pending before the court.
The magistrate subsequently granted Cummings bail, and ordered that he return to court on October 12.
