A woman was on Tuesday accused of stealing a quantity of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages and groceries from her employer valued at over $200,000.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan heard the case of 33-year-old Alicia Brown who allegedly stole the beverages valued at $189,000, and $54,000 worth of groceries, the property of Lunette Timmerman, between September 29 and October 1 in the Mazaruni area, Essequibo.
Brown pleaded not guilty.
According to the facts presented by the prosecution, the defendant was employed at Timmerman’s bar as a bartender, and was placed in charge of the items mentioned in the charge, while Timmerman was absent.
Chief Magistrate McLennan granted the defendant $50,000 bail and adjourned the matter to October 21 when it will be heard at the Bartica Magistrate Court.
