Dear Editor,
Finally somebody of stature, influence, and power publicly identifies the scourge that has devastated this society. At long last, this same person commits publicly to work towards eradicating this pox in the national house.
I commend President Granger. I believe that he is serious and ready for a long hard fight. I look forward to results, incrementally at first, and then geometrically. Youths, institutions, communities, commerce, and the nation’s very way of life have all been tampered with, severely tainted, corrupted, and enfeebled by the cancerous nature of the narcotics trade; the richness of its proceeds that first bring crime and violence; and then the unpersuasive façade, the dumb joke, and the dirty tricks embodied and embedded at pervasive levels across the business horizon.
Immeasurable damage has been inflicted; deep roots planted; and a certain sick collaborating mentality prevails. This was condoned, capitalized upon, and conspired with to degrade this country and its besieged citizens. Venal politicians played with fire; the nation got scorched; and continues to be seared.
It is long past the time for an authoritative figure to stand up, and step forward to say that this monstrosity exists and that it has held one and all hostage, and that it was allowed to do so by those now loudly lamenting and beating their breasts in the best traditions of professional mourners. It is time that there is credible official declaration that the intention is to harbour it no more; that there is no sanctuary left; and that the objectives are to rid this land of the players, the product, and the parties that aid and abet them.
For certain, this will be an arduous, thankless undertaking. Already there are guarded murmurs making the rounds about the slowdown from lack of spending. That would be spending involving dirty money. Let the lack of spending be; if there is no pain, there will be no gain. Thus, the road has to be travelled, obstacles cleared, camouflages recognized, and the journey completed. There should be no prisoners taken, no sacred cows left untouched.
The dark moon ran for an endless night. Is time de day ketch am…
Yours faithfully,
GHK Lall
