The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against Colin Alleyne, the man accused of killing elderly Montrose caretaker Danrasie Ganesh, has been adjourned until next year due to his erratic behaviour in court yesterday during a review of video footage.
At yesterday’s hearing, Sergeant Julio Jonas, who was stationed at the Criminal Investigation Department at Eve Leary at the time of the murder, took to the witness stand to testify. During his testimony, he also presented as evidence, video footage from CCTV cameras taken from the home where Ganesh was found dead and footage from when the accused was held in police custody.
It was during the review of the footage by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul in open court that the accused began to behave erratically. Police Prosecutor David Goodridge subsequently reminded the court that it was not the first time Alleyne had behaved in such a way in court.
As a result, the magistrate adjourned the matter until January 9 for the final witness, Sergeant Rodwell Saraboo, to testify.
It is alleged that Alleyne, 23, of 77 Ceme-tery Road, Timehri, murdered Ganesh on August 1, 2015 at Montrose, East Coast Demerara.
Ganesh’s body was found in a pool of blood in the kitchen of the bottom flat of the two-storey Montrose house, where she had been caretaker for some time. An autopsy revealed that she died as a result of strangulation and brain haemorrhaging reportedly as a result of the severe beating she received at the hands of her killer. The attack was caught on CCTV cameras in the house.
