In effort to continue their youth development drive, the Guyana Hockey Board (GHB) will stage its 4th Annual National Junior Indoor Championships from October 7th to the 9th at the National Gymnasium.
The event is slated to feature several categories inclusive of the inaugural under-10 division, the under-13 Mixed Division, under-16 Boys and Girls sections and the traditional inter-school category.
Presently, several schools have registered inclusive of St. Stanislaus College, Marian Academy, Christ Church Secondary, Mae’s Schools, St John’s, North Georgetown Secondary and School of the Nations.
According to a press release from the GHB “The competition is open to all school and club teams, with all categories, except the Under 21, being 4-A-Side small goal tournaments. The Under 21 category will be played as a standard indoor 6-A- Side competition utilizing the full court.
This tournament provides one of the few opportunities for all ages to play competitively in the sport”.
Excerpts from the bulletin further stated “This year marks the highest submission of teams, more than any other year with over 150 children expected to be participating.
The Under 13 Category is the largest by far with 15 teams registering.
All clubs have submitted teams from their development programs with Saints and Marian Academy also submitting teams in the age categories”
“The Under 21 Category kicks off on Friday at 5:00PM. Saturday and Sunday the action begins at 9:00AM and concludes at 7:00PM. Presentations for each category will be made at the end of the respective finals.
The Under 10 and Under 13 will be concluded on Saturday, while the other categories will finish on Sunday. There will be food and drinks on sale and all proceeds go towards building the junior program” the release concluded.
