In an attempt to aid their preparation for the fifth annual Courts Pee-Wee Primary Schools Football Championship, tourney coordinators Petra Organization yesterday donated two balls to each of the participating schools.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony held at the Girl Guides Pavilion on Brickdam, Co-Director of the Petra Organization Troy Mendonca said the hope is for the donation to play an integral role in the preparation of each of the participants.
According to Mendonca, all systems are in place for the longstanding tournament, declaring that the event has attracted several of the elite schools in Georgetown and has been come a staple on their sporting calendar.He further thanked the relevant sponsors and stakeholders, Courts Guyana Incorporated, Banks DIH Limited, the Ministry of Education, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC) for their continued support.
The eagerly anticipated Boys Under-11 Championship will commence tomorrow at the Thirst Park venue with the opening group stage.
The event which is slated to run from October 8th to November 19th, will feature 24 schools competing in a group format in the first round. On conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group, as well as the best four third positioned teams will advance to the round of 16 knock-out stage.
Following the conclusion of the second phase, the losing eight schools will compete for positions nine through sixteen until the conclusion of the event.
Group-A comprises of St. Pius(2013 winner), Smith Memorial, Winfer Gardens, Mae’s while group-B features West Ruimveldt, Enterprise, J.E. Burnham and St. Margaret’s, and group-C consists of St. Angela’s (2015 champ), Tucville, St. Gabriel’s and St.Ambrose.
Group-D includes Marian Academy (2012 champ), North Georgetown, Success, School of the Nations while group-E contains Stella Maris(2014 victor), St. Agnes, Redeemer Primary and New Guyana School, and group-F consists of South Ruimveldt, St. Stephen’s, F.E. Pollard and Comenius Primary.
