Berbice’s lawmen are currently on the hunt to locate a Corentyne man accused of raping a 12-year-old girl; the man who had been on station bail since May, failed to show up in court on Thursday when the charge was to be read.
According to a police source close to the investigation, the incident allegedly took place on May 1st and the accused was placed under arrest on May 3rd.
The source revealed that on the day in question, the man had locked the child in a bedroom, where he allegedly committed the act.
The girl later managed to escape and ran to where her mother was working and informed her what had transpired after which a report was made at the police station. A subsequent medical examination was conducted which confirmed that the child was raped.
Meanwhile, Stabroek News was reliably informed that the man was placed under arrest and questioned, after which the file was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. It was returned this week with the recommendation to institute the rape charge. However, the man was a no show, which led to an arrest warrant being issued.
