The fifth annual Court’s Pee-Wee Primary Schools football competition will kick-off today with 12 group matches at the Thirst Park ground.
Following the march past at 9:30hrs, the opening round will get underway at 10:00hrs and will pit Mae’s Primary against Winfer Gardens and St. Pius (2013 champ and 2014 defeated finalist) against Smith Memorial.
In the second set of matches at 10:45hrs, West Ruimveldt (2013 runners-up) will oppose St. Margaret’s while last year’s losing finalist Enterprise Primary will tackle J.E. Burnham.
The fifth and sixth fixtures at 11:30hrs will pit defending champs St. Angela’s against St. Ambrose and Tucville (2012 silver medalist) against St. Gabriel’s. At 12:15hrs, Marian Academy (2012 titlist) will oppose School of the Nations while North Georgetown will match skills with Success Primary.
From 13:00hrs, Stella Maris (2014 holder) faces off with newcomers the New Guyana School and St. Agnes battle Redeemer Primary.
In the final two contests at 13:45hrs, South Ruimveldt will oppose Comenius Primary while St. Stephen will tackle F.E Pollard.
The event which runs until November 19, will feature 24 schools competing in a round-robin format.
On conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group as well as the best four third positioned teams will advance to the round of 16 knock-out stage.
Following the conclusion of the round of 16 stage, the losing eight schools will compete for positions nine through 16 until the conclusion of the event.
Group-A comprise of St. Pius, Smith Memorial, Winder Garden and Mae’s Primary while group-B feature West Ruimveldt, Enterprise, J.E. Burnham and St. Margaret’s and group-C consist of St. Angela’s, St. Ambrose, St. Gabriel’s and Tucville.
Group-D include Marian Academy, North Georgetown, Success, School of the Nations while group-E contain Stella Maris, St. Agnes, Redeemer and New Guyana School and group-F consist of South Ruimveldt, St. Stephen’s, F.E. Pollard and Comenius Primary.
The winning team will receive the championship trophy, medals, a set of team uniforms and certificates while the runners-up will collect the second place trophy, medals, six footballs and certificates.
The third placed side will receive the respective trophy, four balls and certificates while fourth placed will be presented with a trophy and certificates. The most discipline team will also be presented with a trophy.
On the individual side, the most valuable player, highest goal scorer and best goalkeeper will each receive a trophy and football cleats.
