Beavers FC secured their maiden win while second placed Pouderoyen FC was held to a draw when another round in the exciting Stag Beer sponsored West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Senior League continued yesterday.
Occupying the cellar position before the start of the match at the Den Amstel Community ground, Beavers FC defeated Jetty Gunners 4-0. Gavin Anderson bagged a brace in the 74th and 78th minute while Troy Lewis and Glenroy Semple scored in the sixth and 69th minute respectively.
With the win, Beavers now occupies the ninth position with four points while Jetty Gunners remain on four points and drop to the 10th position due to an inferior goal difference. In another match Pouderoyen FC was held to a 1-1 draw with Stewartville in a physical and emotional charged affair which saw the issuing of two red cards for the latter.
Orette Stephenson gave Stewartville the lead in the 20th minute after dribbling the advancing goalkeeper during a one on one situation and finishing down the centre.
Morgan Denny equalized in the 33rd minute, placing his shot past the right side of the goalkeeper after Esan Nelson dribbled two defenders down the left side and delivered a pass into this path.
The contest took a turn for the worse when Shennon Murray and Travis Chase were ejected in the 67th minute, reducing Stewartville to nine players. Murray was shown a red card for head-butting Dwayne St. Kitts while Chase was given marching orders seconds later for hurling abusive language at the official.
Despite their numerical handicap, Stewartville held on in the remaining minutes as Pouderoyen squandered several opportunities to secure the result. With the result, Pouderoyen remain in second place on 17 points whilst Stewartville maintain their fifth position on 14 points.
Today at the same venue, third placed unit Uitvlugt will aim to maintain their unbeaten record when they lock horns with 10th positioned Vege Boyz from 14:00hrs. In the final contest of the day, fourth placed Young Achievers will oppose sixth placed Eagles FC from 16:00hrs.
