Defending champs St. Angela’s along with former winners St. Pius, Stella Maris and Marian Academy won their matches yesterday when the fifth edition of the annual Court’s Pee-Wee Primary Schools football Championship commenced yesterday.
Played at the Thirst Park ground, St. Angela’s crushed St. Ambrose 4-0. Seon Cato blasted a hat-trick in the sixth, 14th and 21st minute while Antonio McArthur netted in the 26th minute.
Similarly, 2013 champs St. Pius dismissed Smith Memorial 4-0. Tiquan Thompson scored in the 12th and 26th minute while Deshale Humphrey and Tyrese Late netted in the second and 17th minute each.
Meanwhile, 2014 titlist Stella Maris dismantled Rama Krishna 6-0. Fedel Norville recorded a hat-trick in the sixth, 27th and 28th minute while Jevon Pluck scored twice in the seventh and 21st minute.
Contributing to the rout in the 24th minute was Jaden Wharton. On the other hand, 2011 victor Marian Academy defeated School of the Nations via walkover.
In other results, West Ruimveldt defeated St. Margaret’s 3-0 compliments of goals from Kevin Mentis, Tafrel McAllister and Tyrese Jeffrey in the 27th, 31st and 38th minute respectively.
Also, Tucville edged St. Gabriel’s 1-0 through a Jermaine DeRouche eight minute effort whilst North Georgetown thrashed Success Elementary by a 4-0 margin.
Shaquan Wallers bagged a helmet trick in the fifth, 22nd, 25th and 26th minute. Meanwhile, Winfer Gardens brushed aside Mae’s 3-1. Orlando Dickie registered a brace in the 21st and 24th minute while Makhaya Munroe netted in the 12th minute.
In target in the loss was Joshua Bentick in the 28th minute. Continuing with the results, St. Agnes squeaked past Redeemer 1-0. Miguel Alexander scored in the 29th minute.
The only major casualty of the day was Enterprise who lost to J.E. Burnham 1-0 via a Dominick Leacock penalty effort in the 12th minute.
South Ruimveldt then crushed Comenius 5-0. Saleem Rameshwar scored in the eighth and 17th minute, Antonio Leitch netted in the 21st and 24th minute and Neshawn Bristol netted in the fourth minute.
In the final fixture, St. Stephen and F.E Pollard played to a scoreless draw. The event which ends November 19th features 24 schools competing in a round-robin format.
On conclusion of the group stage, the top two teams from each group as well as the best four third positioned teams will advance to the round of 16 knock-out stage.
Following the conclusion of the round of 16 stage, the losing eight schools will compete for positions nine through 16 until the conclusion of the event.
Winners of the tourney will receive the championship trophy, medals, a set of team uniforms and certificates while the runners-up will collect the second place trophy, medals, six footballs and certificates.
The third placed side will receive the respective trophy, four balls and certificates while fourth placed will be presented with a trophy and certificates. The most discipline team will also be presented with a trophy.
On the individual side, the most valuable player, highest goal scorer and best goalkeeper will each receive a trophy and football cleats. The championship resumes on October 15th at the same venue.
