Mahase Gangadin, who was charged in April with fraudulently converting over $500,000 in items entrusted to him, was yesterday found guilty of the offence.
Magistrate Leron Daly presided over the trial, which was conducted in the absence of Gangadin, who stopped attending court. At the conclusion of the ex parte trial, Gangadin was found guilty and sentenced to nine months in jail.
It was alleged that between January 11 and January 26, 2016, at Georgetown, being entrusted by Rameshwar Singh with three air-conditioning units, valued $582,921, he fraudulently converted same.
At Gangadin’s arraignment in April, it was stated that he sold the air conditioning units but had not received the funds from the buyer. As a result, a request was made for some time for him to acquire all the funds.
