A Charlestown man yesterday morning succumbed to a gunshot wound, just over a week after he was shot during a robbery in front of Dynasty Sports Club, on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt.
Gregory Anthony Garraway, 25, of Russell Street, Charlestown, George-town, died shortly after 4 am at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he had been a patient in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
When contacted, Garraway’s family was too traumatised to speak.
On the night of the robbery, Garraway and his brother were in front of the Dynasty Sports Club but he left to make a purchase at a shop located across the road.
While crossing the road, he was accosted by a man who held him at gunpoint and began to relieve him of a gold chain he was wearing. A scuffle reportedly ensued and he was shot.
The man was picked up by his brother and rushed to Dr Balwant Singh’s Hospital, from where he was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s ICU. While he was at the private hospital, Garraway had undergone surgery to remove the bullet but remained in a critical condition.
