KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC- FIFA president Gianni Infantino has joined Jamaica’s football fraternity in mourning the tragic passing of a top college footballer who collapsed during a match last month.
Infantino’s message to Jamaican Football Federation president Captain Horace Burrell was read during the funeral of St.George’s College schoolboy Dominic James on Saturday.
“Dear President Burrell, please accept my deepest condolences on hearing that Dominic James, a student and captain, has passed away at just 18. Dominic left us too soon and we here at FIFA are truly sorry to hear of his passing,” said the message from Infantino, read at the funeral by The Jamaica Football Federation’s South Central Confederation Chairman Michael Ricketts, in the absence of Burrell.
“On behalf of members of the international football community, I should be grateful if you could extend our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We hope that in some way our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace in this time of sadness”.
James died after he was rushed to hospital when he collapsed during a Manning Cup match against Excelsior High on September 20.
An MVP award is to be named in his honour after he led his team to successive Super Cup titles.
