Sales Department defeated Beer Plant by six wickets when the Banks DIH Limited (Ltd) GT Beer Inter-Department Tape Ball Cricket Championship continued on Monday.
In pursuit of 100 runs at the Thirst Park ground after restricting Beer Plant to 99-6 in their allotted 12 overs, Sales Department successfully reached their target at a 104-4 from 11.3 overs.
S. Baker top scored in the chase with 28 runs highlighted by 2x4s and 3x6s. He was supported by R. Joseph and S. Fredericks who scored 17 runs apiece compliments of 2x4s and 1×6 respectively.
Chipping in with 16 runs showcased by 2x4s was Ramesh Persaud. A. Boodna was the pick of the bowlers in the loss with figures of 1-21 in his three over spell.
Prior to their successful pursuit, the duo of Persaud and G. Jarvis shared five wickets to restrict Beer Plant. Persaud recorded 3-10 in his spell while G. Jarvis supported with 2-15 in his burst.
Batting for Beer Plant, E. Hinds fashioned 2x4s and 3x6s in his top score of 33 while N. Mendonca carved 2x4s and a solitary six in his 22 alongside a 18 run blitz compliments of 3x6s from A. Boodna.
The tourney which is slated to continue on today at the same location, is being contested in a group format.
Following the end of the round-robin stage, the championship will progress to the elimination round.
Group-A will feature Vehicle Workshop, Trisco/Novelty, Soft Drink Plant, Stores, Water Plant, and Berbice. On the other hand, group-B comprises of Sales Department, Brewery, Central Service, Head Office/Audit, Linden and D/W/House.
Each outright win is worth four points while a walkover result is valued at three points. If a match is drawn, both teams will receive two points.
Similarly if a contest is stopped due to rain, two points will be awarded to both sides.
Upon the conclusion of the group round, the event will progress to the knockout stages.
Winner of the tournament will receive the championship trophy while the second and third place finishers will walk away with respective accolades.
