Kemo Scott, who had been on the run from police, was yesterday brought before a city court to face a charge for the murder of a Port Kaituma dredge owner, just over a month after his father was also charged with the crime.
Scott appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman on the charge that on September 2, at White Water Creek Backdam, he murdered Ryan English, also known as “Arthur.” English succumbed on September 4 while undergoing surgery for a chop wound to the head that he sustained in an attack that was carried out two days prior.
Scott was not required to plea to the charge and he was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to October 25.
It is expected that both Scott and his father, Shurland Mohan, who was also charged for the crime, will be jointly charged.
Scott had evaded police while his father was apprehended at the mining camp where the attack occurred.
On the day of the attack, police say Mohan allegedly restrained English as his son fired chops at the man.
Prior to the chopping, the three men had been “having drinks” and were taunting each other when a physical altercation ensued, resulting in English allegedly being chopped to the head by Scott. Consequently, police say English decided to visit the camp where Scott’s father was present in order to lodge a complaint.
However, instead of listening to the complaint, Mohan allegedly confronted English and then allegedly managed to restrain him in order to allow his son to administer several more chops about English’s body.
English was later transported to the Port Kaituma Hospital by members of the mining camp before subsequently being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
