Defending champions Chase Academy, on the back of a century from national U15 captain Sachin Singh, made a successful start to their 2016/17 title defence as the Guyana Cricket Board’s National secondary School Cricket League get underway yesterday.
Singh had the distinction of recording the first century of the competition scoring a classy 101 at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground as
Chase Academy, batting first against St Rose’s High School, amassed 242/3 off 30 overs.
Singh struck 10 fours and two sixes in his innings and he received support from Lester Lepidare, (44 retired hurt) and national under 17 left arm spinner Ashmead Nedd who was unbeaten on 34.
Bowling for St Rose’s High school, Alex Ramotar took 2/39. In reply, St Rose’s High reached 59/9 in 12.4 overs with one batsman unable to bat because of an injury. Bowling for Chase Academy, Dwain Dick had 2/10, Shem Persaud 2/12 and Tyrese Trescott 2/16.
At DCC, St John’s College got the better of St George’s College. Sent in, St George’s College were routed for 49 in 15 overs. Bowling for St John’s College, Johan Blair took 5/9.
In their reply, St John’s College raced to 50/2 in a mere six overs with Darian Dickson scoring 24.
Also at GCC, Bishops’ High scored an easy victory over the Business School winning by 111 runs. Batting first, Bishops’ High made 146/5 from their 30 overs with Troy Persaud top scoring with 74 not out and innings which included nine fours and one six. Bowling for the Business School, Teelack Balliram had 2/14.
Chasing 147 for victory the Business School crumbled to 37 all out in 12.5 overs. Arian Persaud took 4/10, Daniel Singh, 3/7 and Kampta Seepersaud, 3/1.
The competition continues Tuesday with Queen’s College against Richard Ishmael Secondary at the Demerara Cricket Club ground, Kingston High School coming up against School of Nations at GCC, Marian Academy playing St Mary’s High at Muslim Youth Organisation ground (MYO) and Chase Academy facing Bishops’ High at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation.
