After being on the market for more than two years, the Guyana Office for Investment (Go-Invest) has stepped in to assist in getting the costly, modern building on the western side of Camp and Lamaha streets rented.
The owners are currently making construction modifications to suit the potential leasee.
“We have some interest from Go-Invest from a company that approached Go-Invest and we have some …at this point and time we can’t name the company but we are in the process of making some adjustments to suit their requirements,” owner of the property Neil Sukhlal told Stabroek News yesterday.
The modern five-storey building was up to August of this year still looking for a long-term occupant as the owner did not want to rent the building in parts but to one company.
Construction of the edifice began in 2011 and it was completed in 2013.
Back in June of last year the company placed advertisements seeking potential tenants and pointed out that the 40,000 sq. feet building was ideal for embassies, call centres, corporate offices among other entities.
The advertisement had stated that the building has an elevator, central air-conditioning unit, and conference room, generator with an ATS system and a pressure pump with a water filtration system.
The New Thriving Restaurant was originally set for a major expansion at the site but these plans were shelved. A new eatery and hotel was to be opened in the early months of 2014 but that too suffered the same fate.
New Thriving occupied portions of the building for a number of months and the building had been available for receptions and parties. A kitchen extension which New Thriving had been erecting was torn down last year.
The building has evoked much interest because of its modern architecture and distinctive atrium. Sooklall, who also owns and runs the Impressions advertising company, has remained in the background of what is a large investment and has never made public the cost of the building .
