A teenager, accused of two gun-point hold ups in the South Ruimveldt and East La Penitence areas, was yesterday remanded to prison by a city magistrate.
Shamar Thomas, 17, is accused of using a gun to rob Dianne Richards on October 13, at Georgetown, of $65,000, a $2,500 shoulder bag, a $75,000 phone, a $2,500 umbrella and $1,500 pair of shoes.
On the same day, Thomas is also alleged to have used a gun to rob Steven Emmanuel of US$27, TT$100, a $3,000 wallet and $3,100.
Thomas was not required to enter a plea for either charge.
According to Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru, on the morning of October 13, Richards was walking to work in the South Ruimveldt area when Thomas and another person rode up on a bicycle, pointed a gun at her and relieved her of the articles mentioned in the charge.
On the same day, around 4.55 pm, while Emmanuel was in the East La Penitence area, it is alleged that Thomas and his accomplice once again rode up on a bicycle, pointed a gun at him and relieved him of his articles.
The prosecutor objected to bail, while stating that other crimes in which Thomas is implicated are currently being investigated and charges are likely to be laid against him.
Subsequently, Magistrate Leron Daly remanded Thomas and adjourned the matter to October 25.
