Dear Editor,
I wish to clarify a mis-leading article titled, “Mother worried over delay in trial of Muslim scholar accused of molesting boys,” published on page 18 in yesterday’s Stabroek News.
Paragraph 2 reads, “The woman told Stabroek News that she visited the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the Ministry of the Presidency but was never allowed to meet any of them to air her grievances…”
I herein state that the said mother visited these Chambers during the week, October 1O to 14, 2016; I met with her for approximately 10 minutes during which time she made enquiries on the status of the case involving Nezaam Ali.
After I listened to her enquiry I checked our records and thereafter, I explained to her that the accused has been committed to stand trial before a judge and jury. She insisted that I tell her when the trial would commence. I informed her I am unable to do so since the Depositions have not yet been sent to these Chambers.
Yours faithfully,
