Racing fans mark your calendars, the fourth and final leg of the highly anticipated Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) will be staged at the South Dakota Circuit on November 12 and 13.
The official date was announced recently when the event was launched at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMR&SC) Thomas lands facility.
During the launch, president of the sports club, Mahendra Boodhoo noted that speed demons from Barbados, Canada, The Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Trinidad, Suriname, the USA as well as the hosts will transform the speedway into a high velocity battle ground.
When the daredevils starts their engines, Team Guyana will be looking to leapfrog series leader, Trinidad and retain the coveted country trophy for the third successive year.
Said CMRC executive on the local board, Shairaz Roshandin: “So far we have covered Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad. At this point, Trinidad is leading the Championship and Guyana being the final leg, will see the most representatives and we would expect to see high level of competition. We will be hoping that the trophy remains in Guyana.”
Meanwhile, CMRC series title sponsor Seaboard Marine, through the local branch, John Fernandes Limited, continues to invest heavily in the annual fixture.
“Seaboard is proud to inject approximately 125,000 USD into each year of motor racing that CMRC has been in existence. This is no small feat for the company or the championship but we are very proud to be associated with the name and brand,” said representative Jeremey Fernandes.”
GTT, Ansa McAL and Fly Jamaica are already on board with the mega event.
On Saturday November 12 there will be qualification while the business end of the races starts from 08:00hrs a day later with the lap of honour.
