The national men’s rugby team will be playing Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, and Martinique in Group D in the upcoming Rugby America’s North (RAN) 7s championship.
This year’s event will take place on November 12 & 13 in Trinidad and Tobago.
The pool draw which was released recently, has 14 nations in the men’s event where the teams have been divided into two groups of four and two groups of three.
The tournament will feature both men’s and women’s national teams from around the region, and a variety of administrative and educational events to further develop rugby.
In the women’s category with two groups of five, Guyana’s team will be in Group B with the hosts, Mexico, Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.
Pool A (women’s) will see Canada, Jamaica, Cayman, Bermuda and Turks & Caicos Islands locking horns.
The other teams standing in Guyana’s way of securing their eighth Regional 7s title are:
POOL A: Canada, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands
POOL B: Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Vincent and the Grenadines,
POOL C: Cayman Islands, Barbados, Curacao, Dominican Republic
Teams in Pools A and B will play only two matches on Day 1, while teams in Pool C and Pool D will play 3 matches.
DAY 2: The top 2 teams in each Pool will go through to an 8 team (Cup /Plate) knockout tournament as follows: Cup Quarterfinals: A1 v D2, C1 v B2, D1 v A2, B1 v C2.• Loser of 2 Plate semi-finals play off for 7th / 8th• Loser of Cup semi-finals play off for 3rd / 4th
The third place teams in Pools A and B, and third and fourth place teams in Pools C and D, will go through to a separate Bowl and Shield tournament, as follows: MEN’S POOL 1: 3rd Pool A, 3rd Pool C, 4th Pool D.
MEN’S POOL 2: 3rd Pool C, 4th Pool C, 3rd Pool D.
Each team will play two matches, followed by the following: Bowl Final: 1st Pool 1 v 1st Pool 2, Shield Final: 2nd Pool 1 v 2nd Pool 2, Consolation match: 3rd Pool 1 v 3rd Pool 2 (Emmerson Campbell)
