The Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) National Secondary School Cricket League (NSSCL) continued yesterday with wins for Richard Ishmael, St Stanislaus, Friendship and Hope.
At Bourda, Richard Ishmael beat Kingston by 51 runs. Batting first, the winning side was dismissed for 125 in 24.5 overs, with Juspice Jones and Brandon Ramnarine scoring 18 and 17, respectively. Meshack Soffleigh (2/14) and Jonathan St Hill (2/43) were the wicket takers for Kingston High, who in reply, were bundled out for 74 in 17.2 overs. Bowling for Richard Ishmael, Jones returned figures of 5 for 15.
At Demerara Cricket Club Ground, St. Stanislaus batted first and amassed 185/9 in 25 overs. Joshua Bankay led the way with 53, whilst Shemar Bryan, 23, and Veraj Persaud, 20, made useful contributions.
Bowling for Brickdam Secondary, Shane Sukhai took 2-10, and Darren Elias had 2-22. Brickdam Secondary only managed 89-9 in 25 overs, after Daniel Persaud grabbed 3-2 bowling for Saints.
Over at Everest, Friendship Secondary thumped Xenon Academy by 81 runs in their East Bank Demerara zone encounter, after racking up 138-9 off 20 overs. Jamal Scott (38) and Orlando Ghisiawan (24) were the top scorers for Friendship. Bowling for Xenon Academy, Leonard Thomas took 3-16 and Rasheed Evans 2-32. Ghisiawan returned with the ball, bagging 4-8, along with Scott who took 3-9, as Xenon Academy was dismissed for 57.
Meanwhile at Enterprise, Hope Secondary defeated Grove Secondary by 103 runs in the first fixture of the East Coast Demerara zone, after they racked up 173/6 in 25 overs. Phillip Doodnat top scored with 52 not out.
Trevor Blair was the pick of the Grove Secondary bowlers with 3/26. In reply, Grove Secondary plummeted to 69 all out in 14.4 overs, as Cordell Martin took 3/23 for Hope Secondary. Deosarran Narine, Gopaul Applesammy and Tyrese Layne had two wickets apiece.
The NSSCL continues today with the following matches: at DCC, Christ Church Secondary takes on St Mary’s High, Queenstown Secondary plays Mae’s at GCC, Charlestown Secondary will do battle against Dolphin Secondary at GNIC ground, while at Everest, Houston High plays Soesdyke Secondary. Hindu College faces President College at Enterprise in an East Coast Demerara fixture.
