The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) and Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) on Friday hosted an award ceremony at the MARAD boardroom, Battery Road, Kingston, Georgetown for top students and winners of an essay competition.
GINA said that the ceremony saw the organisations awarding the children of parents who work in the Maritime, and Transport & Harbours Departments bursaries and prizes for the winners of the essay competition which was promoted in observance of World Maritime Day.
Essay writers were judged and assessed by a committee based on: Organisation structure, language, style definition and reference approach. The essay competition had two categories.
Category A- 11 to 15 years, and the topic was- ‘Shipping is vital in supporting and sustaining Guyana’s economic growth. Discuss’.
Category B-16 to 18 years, topic was – ‘What improvements are necessary for the local shipping industry to impact global trade’.
