Dear Editor,
The situation regarding blackouts is getting from bad to worse. Guyanese deserve an explanation from the authorities as to the reason(s) for this unfortunate development especially in view of the fact that there is a direct relationship between power outages and the supply of potable water. Several of the pumps in the city and on the coastal areas are connected to the power grid and whenever there are blackouts there is also an instantaneous cut in water supply.
What is even more annoying is not only the frequency but the duration of the blackouts which seem to last longer and longer.
The inconvenience apart, there is also a significant cost to the economy by way of production and productivity loss.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
