A 60-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with being in possession of over 50 pounds of ganja.
Michael McLeod, a taxi driver, was brought before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown court to answer to the charge that he on October 22, at Prashad Nagar, had in his possession 24.712 kilos (equivalent to 54.48 pounds) of cannabis for trafficking.
McLeod, of Prashad Nagar, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
He was subsequently remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate and the matter was adjourned to November 21.
Police on Saturday reported that ranks, acting on information received, went to the suspect’s house and conducted a search, during which 13 taped parcels of the illegal substance were found.
