Six Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOS) benefitted from donations for youth programmes and initiatives from the Guyana Power and Light Incorporation (GPL) in observance of the company’s seventeenth anniversary, GINA said.
Human Resource, Executive Director of GPL, Bal Parsaud said that every year, on its anniversary, the power company would do a number of things to highlight its work. “We’re very mindful of organisations that need support in terms of being able to do what they are doing to the best of their ability. So this year we chose that we will work with NGOs that have a focus on young people- youths, children, and as such we have identified six of these organizations and were able to make a contribution,” Persaud explained.
Representative for Edussential Company, Mark Stevens said that it will aid his company in transforming education, GINA said. “This money will be going towards continuing developing our products, ensure that we meet our goals in transforming the education sector here in Guyana and throughout the Caribbean.”
Generation Next’s representative, Tiffany David said the donation is timely and will assist Generation Next in their quest to revive libraries in schools. “This goes towards our Jubilee project or continuation of where we’ll resuscitating libraries in school, so far we’ve completed Freeburg Secondary, we’re now focusing on Thomas Moore Primary then we’ll move on to Dolphin.”
Youths for Guyana representative, Orin Phillips said the donation will help boost the Ruimveldt Children’s Home.
“Currently we’re working on creating a computer room and a library at the Ruimveldt Children’s Home and this donation goes directly towards that.”
Other organisations that would have benefitted from the donations are the Red Cross Society, Cancer Institute of Guyana and the Diamond/ Grove Lions Club.
