Edward B. Beharry and Company has once again answered the call of the Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU).
Yesterday, the long-time benefactor of the body paved the way for the national men’s and women’s teams to compete at this year Rugby America’s North (RAN) Sevens Championship by coming up with the necessary sponsorship.
The pact’s financial magnitude was undisclosed, but was labeled as substantial for the November 12-13 fixture to be staged in Port-of- Spain, Trinidad.
At the championship, Guyana men’s team dubbed the ‘Green Machine’ will be gunning for their eighth title while the women’s outfit will be seeking their fourth.
During yesterday’s press briefing at the entity’s boardroom in Charlotte Street, Brands Manager, Kamini Naresh stated that the company was proud to continuously support the nation’s current most successful outdoor sports team.
Naresh added that Beharry is committed to supporting the union and wished them well at the tournament.
Her sentiments were echoed by Marketing Manager, Satesh Singh who also stated that Beharry was not just a sponsor to the team but that a friendship has developed over the years.
President of the union, Peter Green lauded the continuous ‘lifeline’ that Beharry and Company has provided the sport of rugby over the years. He stated that the story behind Guyana’s 10 combined Regional Sevens titles would not be possible without the company’s substantial assistance.
The RAN sevens tournament will feature both men’s and women’s national teams from around the Region, and a variety of administrative and educational events to further develop rugby.
The pool draw, which was released recently, has 14 nations in the men’s event where the teams have been divided into two groups of four and two groups of three.
The women’s category has two groups of five teams each. Guyana is in Group B along with the hosts, Mexico, Bahamas and the Dominican Republic.
