Acting Commissioner of Police David Ramnarine yesterday disclosed that in an effort to better serve the Berbice area, almost $4 million will be spend to operationalize mounted patrols at Black Bush Polder and its environs out of the Mibicuri Police station.
Ramnarine, addressing members of the media at a press conference held at his office yesterday afternoon, said that the Guyana Police Force has increased its resources in Berbice in an effort to better respond to reports of crime and to foster community relations.
Thus far, four ranks including two subordinate officers and two constables have been dispatched to the area along with the required resources to perform their functions.
Those resources include, “horses and the usual administrative and logistic upkeep as well as the necessary infrastructure that will aid them in patrolling the backlands, not only to forge and sustain good community relations but to enhance our awareness and knowledge of the large territory and also to improve our response to reports of crime, in the end, building the much needed protection to the farming community in general.”
It is hoped that with the expansion of the mounted branch, ranks would be able to effectively respond to reports made by residents of the area who would normally vent concerns about the delay in responses to reports of serious crime.
