Two nationals of Cuba and another of the Dominican Republic were separately fined for overstaying in the country last Friday.
Alberto Costas, 52, Yubisley Quintana, 32, and Rosaria Dileidy, 28, were all read separate charges for overstaying in Guyana.
The charge against Costas stated that having being permitted to stay in Guyana from April 30 to May 29, he overstayed.
Quintana was permitted to stay in Guyana from June 14 to July 13, while Dileidy, who is from the Dominican Republic, was permitted to remain in Guyana from August 8 to September 7.
Each defendant pleaded guilty to the charge.
When asked why they came to Guyana, Costas, a Cuban national, through a translator, stated that he came to visit and felt cheated because all he wanted to do was stay and work. Quintana, also a Cuban national, stated simply that he arrived in the country for tourism.
Attorney Paul Fung-A-Fat, who represented Dileidy, a Dominican national, stated that his client fell in love with a local man and they are engaged to be married. According to the attorney, the man had applied to attain proper documentation for Dileidy.
Magistrate Judy Latchman fined all three defendants $60,000 each or 30 days in jail and ordered their immediate deportation.
