Two men were yesterday charged with corruptly obtaining cash from Stabroek News photographer Keno George for his stolen camera.
Jevon Patterson, 25, and Romel Buttery, 26, were brought before Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly, who read a charge against them that they corruptly obtained $50,000 from George for helping him to recover his camera, which was stolen, on October 19, at Camp Street, Georgetown.
Both Patterson and Buttery, of 112 South Sophia, denied the charge.
They were each granted their release on $50,000 bail by Magistrate Daly, who set November 10 as the next court date.
Police prosecutor Neville Jeffers, who noted that George had recovered his camera, requested that the lenses recovered from the two defendants remain with George as they are needed for daily use.
On October 5, around 4.10 pm, George and three others, while on a photo shoot in the city, were confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
One of the men demanded that George and his companions “give we everything you got,” while his accomplice pointed a gun in their direction. The bandits then proceeded to search the victims’ pockets and they relieved them of some $50,000 in cash.
George was also relieved of his camera and lenses, worth over $1 million, and two cell phones.
To date, the perpetrators are yet to be arrested.
