Pepsi Hikers, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Pitbulls and Old Fort were among the winning teams when the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company national indoor hockey championships commenced Monday at the National Gymnasium with several fixtures.
In the marquee first division match of the evening, Pepsi Hikers brushed aside Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) Bounty 7-2 with Robert France netting four goals in the rout while Randy Hope, Aroydy Branford and Andrew Stewart scored one goal apiece.
For the losing team, Mark Sargeant and Kevin Spender netted one goal each. Meanwhile, Old Fort defeated Saints 4-2 in the second match of the first division. On target in the win was Robert Brummel, Deheron Wilkinson and siblings Aderemi and Askofu Simon while GCC Pitbulls mauled Phoenix 11-1. Kareem McKenzie scored five times in the assault while Shaquille Leung recorded a hat-trick, Medroy Scotland scored a brace and Trevon Smith netted once. On the other side, Rafael Robinson scored.
In other results, Old Fort defeated Hikers 4-2 in their second division encounter while GCC Vintage hammered Hikers 6-1 in the Veteran’s Section.
In the lone women’s division encounter, GCC Spartans and Old Fort battled to a 2-2 result. Carina Miller scored twice for Spartans while Romichelle Brummel bagged a double for Old Fort. The event resumes today at the same venue with another round of group fixtures form 17:30hrs.
