An unbroken century stand between Raymon Reifer and was the highlight of the second day’s play between Vishaul Singh’s XI and Chris Barnwell’s XI in the ongoing Guyana Jaguars 4-Day practice match.
The match, which continued at the Everest Cricket Club ground, camp Road yesterday, saw Barnwell XI being dismissed for 325 in their first innings after resuming on 273-7.
Chandrapaul Hemraj (65), Robin Bacchus (51), Barnwell (47), Seon Hetmyer (30) and Bhaskar Yadram (33) were the main contributors for Barnwell’s XI.
Left arm seam bowled Reifer captured 3-42 while left-arm spinner Anthony Adams supported with 3-100 for Singh’s XI who, at stumps, were 181-3 in their first innings with Reifer on 68 and Chanderpaul on 49 (4×4 1×6), heading into day three.
A bit of teamwork from the West Indies Under-19 pair of all-rounder Keemo Paul and wicket-keeper Tevin Imlach resulted in the dismissal of opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 27 during the chase.
West Indies Test opener Rajendra Chandrika was forced to retire hurt on four after he was accidentally struck on the leg by the ball while West Indies U19 skipper Shimron Hetmyer (04) was dismissed by in-form West Indies A pacer Keon Joseph.
Captain Singh, following a successful series for West Indies A against Sri Lanka A, stroked a pair of fours but was leg before wicket to spinner Eon Hooper for 18. At 54-3, Reifer and Chanderpaul batted their side into a comfortable position following the top-order collapse.
The Barbados-born all-rounder played with relative ease, finding the gaps when necessary. So too did the veteran Chanderpaul who seemed to enjoy rotating the strike. When Reifer reached his 50 he had already accumulated some four fours and roughly three sixes and
Singh’s XI were in a decent position despite the early setbacks.Earlier, Barnwell and Hetmyer resuming their innings with the task of taking the score past 300. The two added 52 runs for the eighth wicket before Reifer removed the opposite Captain.
All-rounder Sherfane Rutherford (1-35) then had Hetmyer caught behind by gloveman Anthony Bramble while off-spinner Gajanan Suknanan (1-44) wrapped up the innings by removing Romario Shepherd for 13. Day three’s action continues today at 9:30hrs.
