A new champion will be crowned tonight in the Banks DIH Limited Inter-Department Cricket Championship, as Brewery crushed holders Sales Department by 94 runs in the semi-final round, to setup a meeting with Soft Drink Plant.
Asked to bat first on Wednesday at the Thirst Park ground, Brewery racked up an imposing 172-6 in their 15 overs. A. Boodnah led the runs fest with a savage 77, from approximately 24 balls. His innings was highlighted by 10 towering sixes and three fours. The next best scorer with 32 runs (3x4s, 2x6s) was R. Chase, while E. Hinds chipped in with 21 runs (2x6s). R. Joseph was the pick of the bowlers with 2-30 from four overs, while Captain R. Persaud recorded 2-62 in his spell.
In reply, the Sales Department were bowled out for 78 in 11.3 overs. J. Major led the bowling unit with 3-4 in 2.3 overs, while D. October recorded 3-31, and K. Percival secured 2-20. On Tuesday, Sales Department sealed their berth to the semi-final round, mauling Vehicle Workshop by nine wickets at the same venue.Asked to take first strike, Vehicle Workshop struggled to 96-9 in their 15 overs. Terry Liverpool top scored with 21 runs (2x6s, 1×4), while R. Backer chipped in with 17 runs (2x6s). Rayon Joseph was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3-14 in four overs while S. Barker chipped in with 2-23.
In reply, Sales Department raced to 100-1 in 8.4 overs, with Romesh Persaud registering an unbeaten 62 (4x6s and 7x4s). S. Barker contributed 15.. Bowling for Vehicle Workshop, R. Bhagwandas secured the only wicket at the cost of 35 runs.
