Chris Barnwell smoked a belligerent century for his team in the drawn encounter against Vishaul Singh’s XI, as the Guyana Jaguars wrapped up their 4-Day practice game at Everest yesterday.
The skipper smashed 143, with nine fours and eight sixes, which propelled his side to 307 all out, following their 325 in the first innings. Overnight batsman Chandrapaul Hemraj followed up his first innings half-century, with a fine knock of 79, which included 11 boundaries, lending ideal support to his Captain.
Off-spinner Gajanand Suknanan once again starred with the ball, bagging 4-90, and pacer Clinton Pestano had 2 for 17. Raymon Reifer followed up his 69, with two wickets for 46, to add to the three he nabbed in the first innings. Left-arm spinner Anthony Adams took 2-90.
Vishaul Singh’s XI were 72 for one in their second innings when stumps were pulled. West Indies U19 captain Shimron Hetmyer struck eight fours in his even 50, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul was unbeaten on 22, with three fours, as they carried their team to a draw.
Fifties from Shiv Chanderpaul (79), and Reifer, who shared a century stand, propelled Singh’s XI to 368 in the first innings. Other contributors were Anthony Bramble, 27, Sherfane Rutherford, 24, and Akshava Persaud, 37. Eon Hooper took 5 for 76.
Barnwell’s XI began the final day on 63 for 2. Barnwell, a hard-hitting right-hander made full use of his time at the crease, putting the bowlers to the sword during his power-hitting exhibition which was the outstanding innings for his side.
The Jaguars will continue their preparation ahead of the 2016/17 Professional Cricket League /West Indies Cricket Board Regional Four Day tournament which bowls off from November 11.
