Pepsi Hikers and Pizza Hut Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) secured comprehensives wins in the Men’s 1st Division and Women’s Division respectively, when the GTT National Indoor Hockey Championships continued on Wednesday.
Staged at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, Pepsi Hikers equaled the largest margin of victory to date in the event, swamping the National Junior Men’s Team by a 12-2 score line.
Aroydy Branford scored six goals in the assault, while Robert France netted three times. Meanwhile, Pizza Hut GCC hammered Spartans by a 9-2 margin. Kerensa Fernandes scored a hat-trick in the win, while Aliyah Gordon and Trisha Woodroffe recorded doubles, alongside solitary strikes from Marzana Fiedtkou and Sonia Jardine.
Shebiki Baptiste and Paige Fernandes were on target in the loss. The second match of the Women’s section witnessed Hikers brushing aside Old Fort 4-1. Latacia Chung scored twice, while Maria Munroe and Shundel Durant netted once in the rout.
Bahvini Kaladeen was the lone scorer for the losers. In the 2nd Division zone, St. Stanislaus College squeaked past Old Fort 2-1, while Saints downed Hikers 4-2. In the Veteran’s Section, GCC overcame Old Fort by a 2-1 scoreline.
