When the calendar flips to November, Guyana’s speed demons intensify their preparations to defend home turf in the finale of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC).
This year will be no different.
One third of Guyana’s ‘Big Three’ in the Group 4 category, Kevin Jeffrey is locked in and fully geared towards leaving the competition in his rear view mirror at the South Dakota Circuit.
As November 13 draws near, Jeffrey is pulling out all the stops to ensure that he is one of the drivers for Team Guyana that waves the checkered flag.
Rebuilding the engine in his famed Mitsubishi EVO 8 better known as the ‘Bush Cow’ is one of them.
“I’m in the process of rebuilding the engine” Jeffrey told Stabroek Sport yesterday.
“We [Kevin and mechanics] will be trying something new to give me more reliability. I will be looking to improve reliability since we have been suffering failures of different types for the past two years.”
Jeffrey added that, “We will be getting back the Michellin tires and that is great because a lot depends on the handling of the car to compete. The tires should help me to be back in the ball park.”
The ace driver then threw in his two cents on Guyana’s chances in 10 days despite a top class foreign invasion.
“We should win this leg, with myself, my son (Kristian Jeffrey) and Mark (Vieira) along with the other drivers like Irfan (Kalamadeen) and Rupee (Seejatan), we should be able to hold our own.”
Some international speedsters expected to set the South Dakota Circuit ablaze include Jamaica’s Doug Gore and Peter Rae, Barbados’ Stuart and Mark Maloney and Trinidad and Tobago’s Franklin Boodram.
For Jeffrey, these names do not matter, what matters most to him is waving the checkered flag in front of his fans. See you there. (Emmerson Campbell)
