-Fisherman’s XI vs Floodlight Masters in Masters final
Fisherman’s XI advanced to today’s final of the Masters division of the Guyana Softball Cup 6 tournament after upsetting defending champs Regal Masters by four wickets in yesterday’s semi-final played at the Eve Leary Ground.
Batting first, Regal Masters were dismissed for 84 with Jagdish Persaud capturing 3-10 and Stanley Mohabir 2-4 and their opponents raced to 86-6 in 12 overs to qualify for their first ever final.
Baldeo Persaud led his team to victory with the top score of 47 as Laurie Singh bagged 3 for 15 bowling for Regal.
In the second semi-final, last year’s finalist Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) earned their spot in the final by defeating New York President’s XI (NYPXI) by nine wickets.
The match, played at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Ground, saw Ramesh Narine stroking an unbeaten 59 while Ricky Deonarain chipped in with 46 as Floodlights ended on 137-1 in pursuit of NYPXI’s 136-6.
In the Open category, Speed Boat beat Ariel XI by nine wickets in the first semifinal. Batting first, Ariel XI made 113 for 8 with Shazim Hussein (2-7) and Travis Drakes (2-31) the main wicket takers.
Speed Boat then raced to 114-1 from 9.2 overs with Lennox Marks smoking 57 and Sarfraz Karim scoring 33.
In the second semifinal played under lights at DCC, defending champions Regal All-Stars thumped New York Enforcers by eight wickets.
The visitors managed just 104 after Martin Dutchin (4-29), Delroy Perreira (2-17), Tyrone Sanasie (2-21) and Sewchand Budhu (2-23) ripped the batting order apart.
Opener Navin Singh saw the champs home with an unbeaten 57 while Budhu held his nerve in the end to score 27 not out.
Regal will now battle Speed Boat in the Open finals while underdogs Fisherman’s XI will come up against Floodlights Masters in the Masters division starting today from 12:00h at the DCC Ground.
