Defending champions St. Angela’s will oppose 2013 winners St. Pius while West Ruimveldt will tackle St. Agnes in the semi-finals following quarterfinal wins in the 5th Annual Court’s Pee Wee Football Championship yesterday.
The defending champs overcame a physical North Georgetown unit 1-0 at the Thirst Park ground in a bruising encounter.
Antwoine Vincent was the difference as he recorded a 13th minute conversion, goal which is certainly a candidate for the best goal of the event thus far.
Racing down the right side during a counterattack, the centre half unleased a powerful right foot strike from just over the halfway line which crashed onto the left upright and into the back of the net.
Meanwhile, St. Agnes stunned 2012 titlist Marian Academy 2-0. Justin Alexander opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a penalty kick conversion into the right hand corner, following a handball infraction.
The final nail in the coffin was applied two minutes onward as David Xavier scored, stabbing past the advancing goalkeeper into the lower right hand corner from the left of the box.
On the other hand, West Ruimveldt downed F.E. Pollard 2-0. Kevin Mentis and Kenneth Gordon scored in the 35th and 38th minute correspondingly.
Also, St. Pius squeaked past St. Stephens’s 2-1. Dwayne Baptiste and Keron Adams scored in the seventh and 40th minute for the winner while Jequan Cole netted for the loser in the 10th minute.
Competing for the 9-16 positions, Tucville Primary crushed Redeemer 4-0. John Harry scored twice in the second and 11th while Jamal Embrack and Ronaldo Gomes in the 19th and 28th minute respectively while St. Margaret’s crushed Mae’s 4-0 compliments of a Mickelle Andrews helmet-trick in the 17th, 24th, 26th and 28th minute.
In other results, Winfer Gardens edged South Ruimveldt 1-0. Orlando Dickie found the back of the net in the 39th minute while Stella Maris edged St. Agnes 5-4 on penalty kicks.
John Hynes bagged a brace in the 16th and 25th minute for Stella Maris while Tyrese Hart netted in the eighth and 24th minute.
The event will resume on Saturday at the same venue.
