Bartica’s Deputy Mayor, Kamal Persaud is counting her losses as her gift shop was for the second time in two months broken into.
Persaud told Stabroek News yesterday that her business is not the only entity that was broken into as a boutique on the bottom flat of the WK Mall was also robbed.
She said that the perpetrators grained entry to her store from the upper flat through a window that was not secured properly. The bandits, she said, escaped with electronic devices, wallets, watches and jewellery which she estimates to be worth approximately $3.5 million. The bandits broke in sometime between Saturday night and early yesterday morning.
Persaud said that in September she was robbed of items worth approximately $1.5 million and no one was charged.
She expressed concern over the crime situation in the town and noted that it is slowly tarnishing the reputation of the community.
She said in days gone by people could have walked late at nights or even leave the doors of their homes open without any fear.
Persaud howeve, expressed gratitude towards the police for a job well done.
