National table tennis player Shemar Britton with three titles was easily the most outstanding players at the second annual Titans table tennis Club invitational tournament at the Cliff Anderson Sports hall recently.
Britton won the men’s, the U21 and the boys’ U18 singles titles while national player Priscilla Greaves won two titles the girls U18 and the women’s singles.
Britton, who was ousted at the quarter final stage of the national TT championships earlier this year, returned with a vengeance to defeat the evergreen Colin France to win the men’s Open singles title.
Southpaw Britton stopped France, winner of the over-40 men’s singles, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9.
In the semi-finals Britton defeated national player Joel Alleyne 11-9, 11-6, 11-7 while France outlasted another national player in Elishaba Johnson 8-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 11-1.
In the quarter-finals Britton defeated Gary Pratt 3-0; Alleyne won from Dennis France 3-0; Johnson got past Miguel Wong 3-0 and France beat Xenophen Goliath 3-0.
Britton won the U21 singles defeating Miguel Wong 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 and also the boys U18 singles beating Elishaba Johnson 11-6, 11-6, 11-6.
In the semi-finals Britton defeated Terrence Rausch 3-0 while Johnson defeated Miguel Wong 3-0.
In the quarter finals Britton stopped Nicholas 3-0; Rausch beat Tyriq Saunders 3-2; Johnson defeated Brendon Jaikarran 3-0 and Wong beat Yogister Persaud 3-0.
The women’s section of the tournament was a round robin affair and was won by national player Priscilla Greaves who played unbeaten defeating Salenas Jackman 11-5, 11-4, 11-5; Abigale Martin, 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-3, Jewel Todd, 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 and Neveah Clarkston 11-8, 11-4, 11-7.
Jackman was second, Clarkston, third, Martin fourth and Todd, fifth.
Graves also won the girls 18-years-and-under title with Jackman, second, and Clarkston third.
Danesh Persaud won the boys U9 singles by defeating A Johnson 11-8, 12-10, 9-11, 14-12 in the final
In the semi-finals Johnson defeated A. De Abreu 3-0 while Persaud stopped C Wong 3-2.
Krystian Sahadeo defeated Colin Wong in the boys U11 final winning 11-7, 6-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5.
In the semi-finals Sahadeo defeated J Barnaby 3-0 while Wong stopped Persaud 3-0.
Niron Bissu defeated Isaiah Layne in the boys U13 final winning 11-8, 11-5, 11-6.
In the semi-finals Bissu defeated Barnaby 3-0 while Layne stopped J. Van Lange 3-0.
Clarkston won the U13 girls from Martin and Thuraiah Thomas while Jackaman won the U15 girls title with Clarkston and Martin second and third respectively.
Jamal Nicholas defeated Tyriq Saunders in the U15 final winning 12-10, 11-7, 5-11, 11-7.
In the B Class final Kevin Prass defeated Nicholas 7-11, 12-10, 11-7, 9-11, 11-9.
In the semi-finals Nicholas defeated M Cummings 3-0 while Prass defeated S Greene 3-1.
France won the 0-40 Masters title with Goliath second and overseas-based Guyanese Leslie Gill third.
