An inspired bowling effort propelled Soft Drinks Plant to their fifth title when the Banks DIH Limited Inter-Department tapeball cricket tournament ended Friday at the Banks DIH Thirst Park ground.
Soft Drinks Plant defeated Brewery by 20 runs in the grand finale.
Needing to defend 132 in front of a large crowd at the Thirst Park ground, the duo of Alan Norville and Terrence Abel effectively ended the contest as they struck six times to reduce Brewery to 112-6 in their allotted 15 overs.
The contest was effectively over by the ninth over as Brewery struggled to 60-6. Norville started the slide as he claimed the first three wickets to finish with 3-23 from his four overs while Abel recorded 3-12.
Mendonca struck three sixes and two fours in the top score of 35 while J. Major was the next best scorer with 22.
Chipping in with 17 and 16 runs each were E. Hinds and C. Jack.
Prior to sealing championship, Soft Drinks Plant had battled to 132-8 aided by several dropped catches.
Martins led the way with 37 runs an innings which included two sixes and two fours while Norville supported with 33, an innings which included four sixes. Melroy Gomes and Abel contributed 20 and 12 runs apiece.
For the bowlers, R. Barnwell led the way with 2-28 while J. Major captured 2-35. With the win, Soft Drinks Plant walked away with the championship trophy while Brewery settled for the runners-up accolade.
