Pepsi Hikers and Pizza Hut Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) retained the Men’s First and Women’s Divisional Titles, respectively, when the curtains came down on the GTT National Indoor Hockey Championships on Sunday.Pepsi Hikers dismantled arch rival Bounty GCC 8-1 at the National Gymnasium.
The contest was basically over at the end of the first half, as Hikers took a commanding 5-0 lead.Jamarj Assanah scored twice during the first period, in the fifth and sixth minute, while Robert France bagged a double in the ninth and 20th minute, alongside a 19th minute conversion from Randy Hope.
Hikers continued their domination in the second half, as Hope, France and Assanah scored in the 22nd, 25th and 37th minute. Scoring a consolation goal for GCC in the 38th minute was Kevin Spencer. In the ladies final, Pizza Hut GCC crushed Hikers 7-1, to solidify their status as the premier women’s outfit. Vanessa Pires scored twice in the sixth and 28th minute, while Gabriella Xavier bagged a brace in the 13th and 36th minute.
Also on target in the rout were Sonia Jardine, Tricia Fiedtkou and Trisha Woodroffe in the 18th, 24th and 39th minute correspondingly. Scoring for the loser in the 19th minute was Latacia Chung.Meanwhile, GCC proved their superiority in the Veteran’s section, overcoming Hikers by a 5-4 margin in the final. Philip Fernandes netted a brace in the 12th and 25th minute, while Dwayne Scott scored a double in the 28th and 32nd minute.
Chipping in with a 31st minute effort was Patrick Edghill. For the losers, Devin Munroe scored in the 20th and 24th minute, while Timothy Jonas netted in the fourth and 40th minute. In the Men’s Second Division final,
Old Fort downed GCC 4-3. Omar Hopkinson, Anthony Cole, Stephon Sprosta and Jael Gaskin scored in the fourth, ninth, 26th and 39th minute respectively. Old Fort’s Shaquille Leung registered a double in the fifth and sixth minute, while Kareem McKenzie was on target in the 28th minute.
On the individual side of the presentation, Hikers’ France won the Men’s First Division Most Value Player (MVP) award, while teammate Branford secured the Highest Goal Scorer title with 15 conversions. Old Fort’s Anthony Cole clinched the Best Goalkeeper accolade.
In the Women’s Category, Pizza Hut GCC swept the awards, as Kerensa Fernandes claimed the Highest Goal Scorer accolade with seven strikes, while Briawna Gordon and Dominique DeGroot secured the Best Goalkeeper and MVP titles, respectively.
In the Second Division, the Highest Goal Scorer with 10 conversions was Kareem McKenzie of GCC, while the Best Goalkeeper and MVP Awards went to David Williams and Omar Hopkinson, respectively, both of Old Fort.
In the Veterans section, Munroe of Hikers won the Highest Goal Scorer award with seven goals, while GCC’s Scott and Rawle Davson won the awards for MVP and Best Goalkeeper, respectively.
The Most Promising Player awards went to Hilton Chester of St. Stanislaus College, and Makeda Harding of Spartans.
