The R Prasad Service Station was last evening once again targeted by two motorcycle bandits who escaped empty handed after a warning shot was fired by a customer who is a licensed firearm holder.
The incident occurred around 8:30 pm at the service station located on the Railway Embankment at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
According to reports reaching Stabroek News, the bandits rode into the gas station, got off the motorcycle and grabbed the female pump attendant who was at the time counting some cash while seated on a chair. The woman however, managed to escape and alerted her colleagues.
After learning what transpired, a licensed firearm holder who was a customer at the time took out his firearm and fired a warning shot in the air after which the men sped away on their motorcycle.
The owner, Rabindranauth Prasad was present at the time of the incident since there was some construction in progress on the building.
He expressed his dissatisfaction about the incident while noting that it was the fourth such over the past months.
He said, all the matters were reported to the police who were even provided with footage but to date no arrest has been made.
Prasad said that he was told that the men were parked in a dark corner waiting the right time, when customers were not present to attack the business.
He expressed gratitude to the licensed firearm holder for the action he took while nothing that the incident could have been worst.
Just before midnight on June 18 this year, armed bandits stormed the R Prasad Service Station and escaped with $14,200 cash, two cellular phones and twelve gas cylinders after they tied up the pump attendant and security guard who were on duty.
The service station was also among three businesses that were robbed last weekend by two bandits on a motorcycle.
Around 7 am on Friday, two men, one armed with a gun and another with a knife, rode up to one of the pump attendants at the gas station, snatched the money she had and escaped.
Prasad said that he is convinced it is the same two men who carried out last weekend’s robbery after reviewing surveillance footage that monitors his business.
